Big Walk Player Count: Minimum, Maximum, and Group Size
Big Walk supports 2 to 12 online players. Learn how the 2-player, 3-player, and 4+ world versions affect your group before hosting.
The short answer
Big Walk is designed for 2 to 12 online players. Two is the minimum for the cooperative adventure, while 12 is the official maximum. The developers do not name one “correct” party size: smaller groups should feel more focused, while larger groups create more social chaos.
Choose the correct world version
When the host starts a session, they choose one of three world setups:
| Expected group | World version |
|---|---|
| 2 players | 2-player world |
| 3 players | 3-player world |
| 4–12 players | 4+ player world |
This choice changes parts of the world to suit the minimum group size. If some friends may miss a session, the official FAQ recommends choosing a lower version rather than counting every possible visitor.
Can more friends join later?
The host keeps the save and must start the session first. Friends can then join through their platform friends list or a fresh Join Code. Because the game supports drop-in play within a hosted session, your group can organize around a stable host without requiring every person to arrive at the same moment.
Best size for a first group
There is no official best size. Choose two or three if you want communication to stay clear and every action to feel deliberate. Choose four or more if your group values hanging out and does not mind a noisier experience. The important decision is picking the world version your reliable core group can actually support.
