The short version

Before starting Big Walk, gather at least two players, choose one reliable host, and decide whether the group needs the 2-player, 3-player, or 4+ version of the world. The host keeps the save, so that person must return whenever the group wants to continue the same journey.

Big Walk has no random matchmaking. Organize the group before launch and confirm that everyone plays on Windows, Mac, PlayStation 5, or Nintendo Switch 2.

First-session checklist

  1. Choose the person who will own the long-term save.
  2. Count the players who can attend reliably, not everyone who might visit once.
  3. Select the 2-player, 3-player, or 4+ world version.
  4. Start the hosted session before guests try to connect.
  5. Invite platform friends or share the newly generated Join Code.
  6. Test in-game voice or text chat before moving far apart.

The selected world version describes the expected minimum group size. It does not lower the overall maximum of 12 players.

Pick the host carefully

Progress saves automatically, but it belongs to the host. Guests disconnect when the host ends the session, and the original host must start again to resume that world.

Choose the person most likely to attend future sessions. The official FAQ does not announce host migration or save transfer, so do not assume another player can take over later.

Keep communication inside the game

Big Walk supports voice and text chat, and a microphone is optional. Both systems react to the world: distance and barriers can stop messages, while items such as walkie-talkies can change how communication travels.

House House recommends avoiding Discord and other unrestricted calls during normal play. Communication limits are part of the puzzles rather than a technical problem to bypass.

What not to assume before launch

The official sources do not currently publish a launch price, exact puzzle solutions, fixed communication ranges, or complete behavior for every tool. Treat confident third-party claims about those details as unconfirmed until a store or developer source verifies them.

Start with the confirmed rules, allow time to explore, and expect the group to learn by talking, pointing, separating, and finding one another again.
