Big Walk Voice and Text Chat: Do You Need a Microphone?
Big Walk includes in-game voice and text chat. You can play without a microphone, but outside voice calls bypass an important game mechanic.
You do not need a microphone
Big Walk supports both in-game voice chat and in-game text chat. The official FAQ says the full game can be played through text without missing the communication mechanics.
Text follows the same world rules
Text is not a universal chat window. Like voice, its reach and behavior can depend on distance, barriers, and in-game communication items. A message may not reach a distant teammate, while a walkie-talkie can help.
Avoid outside voice calls
House House strongly recommends keeping communication inside the game. Some situations intentionally remove or restrict contact, turning communication itself into part of the puzzle. Discord or another unrestricted call can reveal information the group is meant to work around.
Group setup
Before a long session:
- test the preferred in-game chat mode;
- make sure text size and audio levels are comfortable;
- agree on simple signals for moments when normal chat stops working;
- keep outside chat only for genuine technical recovery.
The unusual communication rules are not a limitation to bypass; they are one of Big Walk’s central systems.
